Scott Perry Reaches Deal With New York Knicks

The New York Knicks and general manager Scott Perry reached a one-year deal on Wednesday.

The Knicks had to do something since Perry had a mutual option that was set to take effect on May 1, according to Steve Popper of Newsday. There have been questions about the future of the Knicks front office since Steve Mills parted with the team in February. However, it was Knicks president Leon Rose’s intention to have Perry through the 2020-2021 season at least.

“Scott is a well-respected basketball executive who I have known for more than 20 years,” Rose said in a statement. “And I look forward to continuing to work closely with him as we build a winning team in New York.”

Perry has been the general manager of the Knicks since 2017. He oversaw the hiring and firing of head coach David Fizdale, the Kristaps Porzingis trade, and the draft of RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson, among others.

In three seasons under Perry, the Knicks have a 67-163 record. The Knicks were 21-45, the sixth-worst record in the NBA, when the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. This season would be the seventh straight year that the Knicks haven’t made the playoffs.

If Perry can’t help the Knicks turn things around, then next season should be his last with the team.
