This past weekend, the New Orleans Saints agreed to terms with a pair of veterans, Ziggy Hood and Josh Martin.
A former first-round pick, Ziggy Hood has spent the last 10 years in the league with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, Washington Redskins, and Miami Dolphins. He has started 73 games throughout his 10-year career. He has amassed 14 career sacks and 231 tackles throughout his time. The defensive tackle position is a weakness for the Saints due to Sheldon Rankins‘ Achilles injury and David Onyemata‘s suspension. He will compete with veteran tackles Mario Edwards, Malcolm Brown, and Sylvester Williams for playing time immediately.
Former New York Jets linebacker Josh Martin also signed a deal with the Saints. The 27-year-old has primarily served as a backup linebacker and a key member of special teams for the Jets. He will be joining former teammate Demario Davis in the linebacking corps. The Saints hope he can serve in a depth role on defense and be a big contributor on the special teams unit this season.
