Four New England Revolution players have been called up to play for the respective nations during the upcoming international break.
Juan Agudelo and Antonio Delamea will be joining the United States and Slovenia respectively for their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers, while Jamaica called on Je-Vaughn Watson and Haiti called on Zach Herivaux to play in their upcoming international friendlies. Neither of these players are expected to miss any MLS games, as the Revolution enter their do or die stretch of the season.
This is the third time that Agudelo has been called up for the USMNT, having most recently represented them in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which they won. Much like the Revolution, the USMNT is at a crucial junction in their season. They USMNT has two crucial games this break, the first against Panama on Oct. 6th and the second against Trinidad and Tobago on Oct. 10th.
The USMNT sit in 4th in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Hex, which would send them into a playoff against Syria for a spot in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Panama is above them by one point in third, making this matchup a must win for both sides if they want to automatically qualify for the World Cup.
Delamea, the first ever Slovenian player to play in the MLS, has represented his country already this year in World Cup Qualifying, but was an unused substitute in both games. He last started for the team against Malta in June 2017, earning a 1-0 victory.
Slovenia are also playing two crucial games in their UEFA World Cup Qualifying group. They are in 3rd in their group, only one point of Slovakia in 2nd, which would give them a spot in the runner-up playoffs. In the UEFA group qualifying format, the team that finishes first automatically qualifies, while the best eight second place teams face off for the final four spots. Slovenia face top of their group England on Oct. 5th and 4th Scotland on Oct. 8th, who have the same amount of points as Slovenia, making this a must win for both teams.
Watson has recently become a staple in the Jamaican National team, playing a key role in their run to a second consecutive CONCACAF Gold Cup Final appearance this summer, even scoring their lone goal in the final. Jamaica have already been eliminated from World Cup Qualification after failing to reach the CONCACAF Hex, and will face off against Saudi Arabia on Oct. 7th.
Herivaux will be looking to make his second career appearance for Haiti this international break, having made his debut last summer against Argentina. Haiti face off against Japan on Oct. 10th, the country where Herivaux was born and is a citizen of, along with Haiti and the United States.
The Revolution face off against NYCFC next on Oct. 15th at 7 p.m. in Foxboro. All four of these players are expected to be back with the team by this date.
