The New England Revolution announced Monday that they had signed Revolution Academy midfielder Issac Angking as a Homegrown Player.
The 17-year-old native of Providence, Rhode Island is now the youngest member of the Revolution’s first team roster and fourth Homegrown Player. Angking joins Diego Fagundez, Scott Caldwell, and Zachary Herivaux as the lone Homegrown players on the squad.
Angking has been with the Revolution Academy for four years, working his way up from the Under-14s to the Under-19s team. He scored 28 goals and had 18 assists throughout his 81 appearances for the Revolution Academy. Out of his 28 goals, 12 of them came last year when he played with the Under-19s team, a team which he made 11 appearances for.
Revolution General Manager Michael Burns had heaps of praise for the teenage midfielder in an interview with revolutionsoccer.net.
“We’ve closely monitored Isaac’s development during his four seasons in our Academy and look forward to seeing him continue to grow in the Revolution system,” Burns said. “Isaac has distinguished himself with exceptional play and we believe he has the ability to become an impactful player for us at the professional level.”
Angking is thrilled to get the opportunity to get the chance to play for his hometown team.
“I’m excited to be joining the Revolution first team and can’t wait to start working with the coaches and my teammates,” Angking said. “I’m looking forward to this next step in my journey and am thrilled to be taking that step with my hometown club.”
Angking is the club’s first signing of 2018 and has not been given a squad number yet.
