The New England Revolution announced Wednesday that former assistant coach Remi Roy will be taking over as the Director of Scouting & Player Personnel.
Roy served as a goalkeeper coach for eight years prior to his hiring at this new position and was involved with player scouting while serving as an assistant coach.
General manager Michael Burns told revolutionsoccer.net he was thrilled to have Roy in this important position.
“Remi has been an important part of the Revolution organization in his eight years with the club,” Burns said. “As we continue to expand our efforts to identify talented players both domestically and internationally, having Remi focused solely on scouting will be a great asset to the club.”
Roy is now tasked with scouting players from all levels of the game. He will also aid the Revolution’s technical staff in evaluating players, while also having a role in all soccer-related activities at the club.
Fans and media members alike all had a mixed reaction to the hiring of Roy.
New England Revolution name Remi Roy Director of Scouting & Player Personnel…
This is HUGE, HUGE, HUGE.#NERevs and #MLS at large have been behind in scouting since the start. Long way to go. But at least they have a foundation.

The #NERevs address a much-needed shift for their club re: scouting.
Remi Roy had previously served as goalkeeper coach, so an internal move. https://t.co/vM6sA3JJLL

This could be a very good move for the #NERevs. Like it a lot but long overdue. https://t.co/hr1LFVHdnN

The problems is that myself and an inordinate amount of #NERevs fans have been practically begging the front office about efforts to create a dedicated scouting department FOR YEARS.
So please excuse my lack of excitement over this announcement. https://t.co/Gv6lwZCi2V

I like Remi, but how does someone go from Goalie coach to Director of Scouting & Player Personnel? #NERevs https://t.co/rsHIW2xpq0

Really happy to see this position created at the #NERevs. For a club that generally doesnt spend much money, finding bargains is vital. https://t.co/m9Py48DGZV
