The New England Revolution drew 2-2 against D.C. United last Saturday in Foxborough after playing three games in a span of eight days.
The action all went down in the first half of this fixture as Lee Nguyen opened the scoring in the fifth minute on a header which was assisted by Kei Kamara.
However they didn’t hold on to this lead for to long as D.C. United bounced back with a goal by center midfielder Jared Jeffrey on a poor clearance by Kamara in the 26th minute. Just two minutes after the goal the Revolution conceded again on a defensive lapse when forward Sebastien Le Toux got the ball and ran past two defenders and chipped keeper Cody Cropper to make it a 2-1 game.
Head Coach for the Revolution, Jay Heaps, must have given his team a decent half time speech as his starting 11 came out and scored a goal three minutes into the second half on a corner kick goal by Forward Juan Agudelo. The dead ball was played into Antonio Dalamea who head headed it across the face of the goal to Agudelo for a simple tap in.
The Revolution had more offensive pressure throughout the game than their opponents, but couldn’t find a way to break the deadlock after their early second half goal. In the 81st minute of the match forward Teal Bunbury had a great chance to go ahead on a play where Kamara headed the ball off the post where Bunbury was wide open for a shot, but he put it wide right.
With this tie, the Revolution stay seated in eighth place with nine points in the Eastern Conference and they take on the reigning champion, Seattle Sounders tonight.
The Sounders have started off the season pretty strong as they currently sit in fourth place in the Western Conference. Clint Dempsey has been there go to guy this year, leading the team in goals with three, and the second guy to watch out for is Nicolas Lodeiro who has two goals and three assists so far this year.
Seattle is coming off a big 3-0 win over the LA Galaxy and look to keep their momentum going as they host the New England Revolution tonight at 10 p.m.
