Fresh off of playing in his 21st season, Atlanta Hawks free agent guard Vince Carter is giving it one more season. Appearing on ESPN’s “The Jump” on Wednesday, the 42-year-old veteran announced that his plans to retire after next season. Once he signs a new deal with a team, he’ll become the first player in NBA history to play in 22 NBA seasons.

“I’ve got one more in me,” Carter said on the show. “One more run.”

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Carter would consider signing with the Heat, should they be interested. Next month, the Miami Heat will look at plenty of options to fill the Dwyane Wade role, or at least try. It’ll be very difficult. In his last season, Wade finished with 15.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as a Heat reserve.

At this point in his career, Carter is not averaging 15 points a night. However, he will provide depth and veteran leadership for the Heat, especially with Wade retired and possibly Udonis Haslem as well. Haslem has yet to make a decision on his NBA future.

Carter has played for eight different teams in over two decades. This season with the Atlanta Hawks, he averaged 7.4 points on 42 percent shooting from the field.
