Report: The Real Reason Behind Justin Herbert First NFL Start

Justin Herbert

Sunday saw the debut of the sixth overall pick, Justin Herbert in the team’s home game against the defending Super Bowl Champion, the Kansas City Chiefs.

While Herbert played well, after Tyrod Taylor was a pregame scratch, and the team had every opportunity to win the game, they were unable to pull it out in the end. In itself, it was a good story.

But Wednesday the real reason behind Herbert’s first NFL start is bizarre. Taylor was sidelined after being taken to the hospital. The Chargers team doctor was attempting to administer a pain killing shot to alleviate the pain caused by cracked ribs, accidentally punctured Taylor’s lung.

It is unclear if and what any punishment will be handed down to the team doctor. More importantly, it remains unclear when we’ll see Taylor under center, doctors have advised him not to play indefinitely.

The NFLPA is also investigating. From a legal standpoint, according to the current CBA, a player accepts the team medical staff and can not sue.
