The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially used their franchise tag and have used it on a big breakout player. The NFL leader in sacks (with 19.5 in 2019), 27-year-old linebacker Shaq Barrett will be staying with Tampa for another year.

2019 was his first full season as a starter after spending his career with the Denver Broncos. His debut season in Florida made him look like a monster.

Barrett has reportedly expressed his desire to remain with the Bucs long term but has said that he is okay with playing under a one-year tag.

Although this is only a one-year deal for all intents and purposes, they now have several more months to negotiate an extension. Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is a major factor as to why Barrett wants to stay with the Bucs as his system is very appealing to Barrett.
