The San Francisco 49ers are in a tough spot with a 4-4 record. With that in mind, they’ve entered a slight selling mode. They have dealt all-pro linebacker Kwon Alexander to the New Orleans Saints for a conditional fifth-round pick in 2022 and fellow linebacker Kiko Alonso.
San Francisco signed Alexander to a four-year, $54 million deal in 2019. Alexander missed three games this season but despite that has a sack, forced fumble, and 30 tackles. The 26-year-old will look to help a potent Saints defense take down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the division leaders.
Alonso, 30 is nursing another ACL injury and recently returned to practice but on a very limited basis. He is more of a longer-term addition for the 49ers.
The Saints already have a great defense with Marshon Lattimore, among many others. Alexander now will add to that and create havoc for opposing offenses.
