Report: Rival League Executives see Miami as Favorites to Land P.J. Tucker

The Miami Heat have been interested in Houston Rockets forward P.J. Tucker for a while now. Tucker is currently away from the Rockets as the team tries to move him. So where will his next destination be? According to Chris Mannix of SI.com, the Heat are the favorites to land him.

“The Rockets are in a free fall, winless since early February — a 16-game losing streak, all without Christian Wood,” Mannix wrote. “P.J. Tucker, whose numbers have dipped precipitously this season, is expected to be traded, with rival executives pointing to Miami as the favorite.”

There’s a lot of teams interested in acquiring the forward. This season, Tucker is averaging just 4.4 points and 4.6 boards per game. Despite the low numbers, Tucker is known as a great defender with a relentless motor. He’s also shooting a respectable 35.9 percent from downtown.

Acquiring a power forward has been high on Miami’s list for a while now. They’ve been looking for someone who can help Bam Adebayo on the defensive end and the boards. And also someone who can at least provide some spacing on the other end of the floor. Miami’s been missing that since Jae Crowder left this past offseason. They tried so many different options this season with Kelly Olynyk spending the bulk of his minutes there. Miami hopes to move Olynyk back in his reserve role where he’s been comfortable.

Only time will tell if Tucker lands in Miami. The Rockets’ current asking price has been ludicrous. They reportedly asked Miami for either Tyler Herro or Duncan Robinson in return. At some point, they’ll likely come down on their asking price, and then we’ll see where Tucker lands.
