Although the 2022 season is already underway, the Boston Red Sox are still looking for upgrades. One bat they have been connected to is Michael Conforto. The former first-round pick injured his shoulder in January but is now healthy. With the Mets’ additions of Starling Marte and Mark Canha, Conforto is looking for a new home. The Washington native is coming off a down season, but has intriguing upside and will be looking to rebuild his value.

Conforto’s Resume
Through 757 MLB games, Conforto has hit 132 home runs and posted a .255 batting average. He was an All-Star in 2017 and was a staple in the New York lineup. While he did struggle in 2021, he still managed to drive in 55 runs and would give Boston another offensive weapon. However, his value does not only lie in his bat.
The veteran outfielder has committed just 17 errors in his career while recording a .987 fielding percentage. Conforto also has 41 career assists and has turned seven double plays. In a Red Sox outfield that provided plenty of highlights last season, he could add some of his own. However, any team that signs him would have to surrender a draft pick. That is one reason why he remains unsigned.
#RedSox and #Guardians have reached out to Michael Conforto this morning, per .@mikedeportes. 🧐
We heard last week the #RedSox were also in on AJ Pollock.
He’d bring an intriguing component to this lineup with his OBP skills.#DirtyWater| #MLB pic.twitter.com/f2n8GODBla

How Conforto Fits in Boston’s Plans
While no deal is imminent, the Red Sox did talk to the 29-year-old on Monday afternoon. Due to his injury history, Boston could potentially get Conforto on a one-year prove-it type of deal. He brings postseason experience and knows what it is like to play in a big market. The Red Sox currently have a right field platoon of Jackie Bradley Jr. and Christian Arroyo, the latter of which is still getting comfortable in the outfield.
Regardless of where Conforto signs, the Red Sox interest shows that more moves could be on the horizon. Their most significant need is pitching, but Conforto would give them another power threat. The former All-Star has also drawn interest from the Cleveland Guardians and should be a popular target for teams still looking for offense.
