Report: Patriots Targeting Rival Tight End in Trade Talks

The Patriots were towards the bottom of the league in almost every tight end related category imaginable last year, so it’s no surprise that the team is putting that position in the forefront when it comes to this offseason.

And while free agency doesn’t start until the middle of March, the Pats are reportedly kicking the tires on a tight end from one of their rivals.

Hayden Hurst has had a relatively underwhelming start to his career so far (62 catches for 512 yards over two seasons) but Bill Belichick has made a Hall of Fame career out of finding players who are undervalued on their current team and turning them into vital parts of his own; Kyle Van Noy is the most recent example of that.

Belichick was interested in Hurst coming out of USC in 2018, so the interest here shouldn’t be too surprising.

The Patriots may have to overpay a bit when it comes to getting the young tight end away from Baltimore, though. The Ravens likely won’t be too keen on just giving one of their AFC rivals a weapon at a position that is currently filled with tumbleweeds.
