News finally broke that veteran Defensive end, and former Atlanta Falcons superstar, Adrian Clayborn has signed with the New England Patriots on a two-year/$12 million deal.
The Patriots have been fairly quiet all free agency, having only traded for defensive Tackle Danny Shelton and Jason McCourty, and the eventual re-signing of Rex Burkhead. Bringing in Clayborn and Shelton is clear as day that the Patriots are looking to bolster a horrid defensive front that could not put pressure on quarterback Nick Foles in the Superbowl.
Clayborn is coming off a nine and a half sack season, in which he had a stupendous six-sack game that broke the internet. People were astounded, and while it may have come against a pre-dominantly injured Dallas O-line, it still shows the kind of wrecking ball Clayborn can be.
Shelton and Clayborn will pair up with young superstars Trey Flowers, and Malcom Brown. Derek Rivers will also be returning from a torn Achilles. When Derek Rivers was drafted out of Youngstown State, it was said he was one of the top athletes in the draft and was overlooked as one of the best defensive ends.
That being said, New England is finally making some noise to improve an abysmal defense which ranked in at No.29 in the league last year. With all the pieces in place for a powerhouse offense, New England may look to add a few more established defensive players in free agency and attack the rest of their needs in the draft.
