After 11 seasons in the National Football League, former New York Jets and New England Patriots linebacker David Harris announced that he’s retiring from the sport.

Harris released this statement through his agency.

“After 11 years of having played the greatest team sport at its highest level, it’s now time for me to announce my retirement from the NFL.โ€

Harris played 10 seasons with the Jets and one with the Patriots totaling 1,109 total tackles, 36.5 sacks, and 11 forced fumbles. Harris was named a Second-team All-Pro in 2009 and though he didn’t make a huge contribution on the field this last season, he served as a mentor for the younger players on the Patriots roster.

Because of his retirement, the Patriots will save $2.125 million towards their salary cap.
