Report: Patriots Cut Defensive Tackle

The New England Patriots have ended a disappointing experiment on the defensive line.

Per reports from ESPN reporter Mike Reiss, the team released defensive tackle Mike Pennel today.

Pennel, 28, is not just any scrub getting cut from the team. The former New York Jet was highly coveted by the Patriots. So much so that he was signed by the team on the first day of free agency to a two-year deal that was worth up to $8 million.

The team now has only two free agent acquisitions remaining from their offseason on the roster in defensive back Terrence Brooks and tight end Matt LaCosse.
