On Wednesday, the NBA got its first blockbuster move of the season with James Harden going to the Brooklyn Nets. It was a four-team deal that involved the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers. As part of the four-team deal, the Pacers traded Victor Oladipo to the Houston Rockets. It was the most surprising move of the day.
On an expiring deal, would Oladipo commit to the Rockets long-term? The Ringer’s Kevin O’Conner doesn’t think so. According to O’Conner, the guard is still eyeing a move to the Miami Heat.
“Houston could also still flip Oladipo, who wanted out of Indiana but landed in another place he doesn’t want to be. League sources say Oladipo still hopes to find himself in Miami.”
The Heat reportedly were not interested in Oladipo after watching him in the playoffs. There were also questions about whether or not he would return to his all-star form. However, Oladipo has shown some flashes of his old self so far. In nine games for Indiana, Oladipo is averaging 20.0 points. 5.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.7 steals in 42.1 percent shooting from the field and 36.2 percent from downtown.
With Oladipo heading into free agency this summer, the Rockets could look to move him by the trade deadline. But will the Heat pursue him? We’ll see over the next few months.
