Report: Miami Heat Interested in Larry Nance Jr.

As mentioned numerous times, the Miami Heat need an upgrade at the power forward position. Miami is looking for a player that can help Bam Adebayo down low on the boards, after trying many different options. Kelly Olynyk is currently starting there but the play has been inconsistent.

According to Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor, the Heat are interested in forward Larry Nance Jr.

“Nance would help a lot of teams and he’s on a multi-year bargain deal that makes it easy to come up with matching salaries, He’s the kind of versatile piece that contenders covet because of his defense, playmaking, shooting and impact on winning. According to sources, Nance is the player the Cavs have received the most calls about. Sources say the Minnesota Timberwolves have been aggressively pursuing him since the offseason. Nance’s old teammate and buddy D’Angelo Russell is a strong Nance advocate. Boston, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Miami and Dallas have also shown interest.”

Fedor adds that the forward is unlikely to be traded before the deadline unless the Cavs are blown away by an offer. While he may not be labeled as a stretch big, his three-point percentage (38.1 percent from long-range) has improved during his time in Cleveland. His rebounding would definitely be helpful to Miami, who has given teams multiple second-chance opportunities.

Miami lacks draft capital, so it will be difficult to make a move for Nance Jr. unless the Heat get Oklahoma City to unprotect one of their picks.

The big man has appeared in just 19 games this season due to a broken fourth metacarpal in his hand. He is averaging 9.3 points, 1.9 steals, .5 blocks, and 6.8 boards per game.
