The hits keep coming for the San Francisco 49ers.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, star tight end George Kittle broke a bone in his foot and will miss up to eight weeks. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo also re-aggravated his high-ankle sprain and will miss an extended period of time.
Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be sidelined a minimum of six weeks and possibly longer if surgery is needed, per source.
George Kittle is out eight weeks with a broken bone in his foot, which means his season could be over.

An eight-week timeline for Kittle means that he won’t return until Week 17. Unless the 49ers make a miraculous comeback and steal a playoff spot, Kittle is likely done for the season. Kittle missed two games earlier this year due to injury and has yet to log a complete season. He presumably finishes the 2020 campaign with 37 catches, 474 yards, and two touchdowns. A key factor on offense, Kittle helped the team mesh together both on and off the field, serving as a reliable pass-catcher and incredible blocker.
As for Garoppolo, he’ll miss a minimum of six weeks, leaving Nick Mullens as the starter through Week 14. Garoppolo re-aggravated the high-ankle sprain that he suffered back in Week 2. He went 3-3 when active, completing 94 passes for 1,096 yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception.
Jordan Reed, who was designated to return from IR last week but has yet to be activated, will slot in at tight end during Kittle’s absence. Ross Dwelley will also see a large increase in usage going forward. Meanwhile, Nick Mullens will take over under center. The Southern Mississippi product has shown flashes of potential when filling in for Garoppolo but will now get a chance to prove himself during a longer stretch of games before he becomes a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
Monday, Nov. 2 will go down as yet another depressing Monday for the 49ers, who just can’t catch a break.
