Report: Jets to Sign George Fant

After missing out on Jack Conklin and several other offensive line pieces, the Jets have signed someone who will upgrade their league-worst offensive line.

New York has inked offensive tackle George Fant to a three-year, $30 million deal.

Fant, 27, went undrafted in 2016 when he didn’t exactly have a defined position going into the draft. He impressed Seattle’s brass enough to sign as an undrafted free agent and was a hybrid for his first few seasons. He was good enough this past season to earn the eyes of many evaluators and scouts.

He has started 20 games and played 40 total career games.

For the Jets and Joe Douglas, it was an easy decision. They missed out on the top tier of linemen and desperately needed a feasible starter. Fant is an immediate upgrade with the only possible worthy starter injured in Brian Winters.

Sam Darnold struggled last season for a variety of reasons. First, his top receiver was Robby Anderson who wasn’t very consistent. Second, and more importantly, he had practically no offensive line. He had his fair share of “ghosts” and never had enough time to get a quality throw out. On the rare occasion that Darnold was able to get a pass out, he showed a glimpse o his potential to be phenomenal. Further, Le’Veon Bell really had a bad season and part of that was due to no offensive line.

Now that Fant is on board, Jets fans should hope that Joe Douglas keeps on stacking up on quality offensive lineman because anyone will help with the current scenario.
