After struggling to generate the market he’d desired upon entering free agency, the market, namely the Jets, have propelled into the race for defensive end, Jadeveon Clowney

Clowney, who is 27 years old, was a Houston Texan ever since getting drafted in 2014 as the No. 1 overall pick. He made three consecutive Pro Bowls from and made Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2016.
In 2019, the Seahawks traded for the star defensive end, and he posted three sacks and 13 quarterback hits in 13 games (11 starts).
In his career, Clowney has played in 75 out of 96 games, totaling 32 sacks, nine forced fumbles, and one pick-six.
The Jets, Titans, and Seahawks appear to be in the running as the only teams left for Clowney and the Jets appear to have the upper hand. While they may not be matching the $20 million that Clowney is seeking, they can certainly afford somewhere in the $18 to $19 million range.
Clowney is exactly what the Jets need. He is a force as both a run-stuffer and a pass-rusher. He can help both at outside linebacker as well as outside defensive line as an edge-rusher. The Jets, who ranked fourth in total sacks a season ago, would only be adding another sure-thing to an already potent pass-rush.
While durability is still a major cause for concern, you can’t argue that he’s anything short of a menace when on the field. That alone justifies paying him in the ballpark of his asking price.
Stay tuned as there will be more to come regarding Clowney’s free agency.
