Future Hall of Famer Jason Witten has not ruled out a return to playing in 2020. However, according to a report from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, he also hasn’t ruled out following former Dallas Cowboys head coach and current Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett to New York.
With no on-field coaching spot on Mike McCarthy's @dallascowboys staff, sources say Jason Witten hasn't ruled out playing in '20, and not to rule out reunion w new @Giants OC Jason Garrett. Of Witten's 16 games, his most productive game was vs. Giants.

For the Cowboys, if Witten does leave, it could be one of the best things to happen for them. Witten will always be known as a legend in Dallas, but his slow play and increased drops prove it is time for the Pro Bowler to move on. Fans have been begging for tight end Blake Jarwin to get more playing time and with Witten potentially leaving, it might just happen next season.
Newly hired head coach, Mike McCarthy, has already hired a tight end coach in Lunda Wells, so there is no room for Witten under McCarthy’s coaching staff.
The real question for Witten is does he intend to play or coach under Garrett? Witten could play a support role in New York to some up-and-coming tight ends. Witten is loyal, but is he more loyal to Garrett or the the Cowboys’ organization?
