Report: Heat Target LaMarcus Aldridge Is Now Available

Heat target LaMarcus Aldridge is now available

Out of nowhere, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich announced that the team and LaMarcus Aldridge have mutually agreed to part ways.

The news was announced prior to the Spurs game against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the team is actively trying to trade him.

With Aldridge now available, the Miami Heat will likely be interested. Miami has shown interest in the forward for quite some time. In 2015, Pat Riley met with the forward and tried to acquire him with only the mid-level exception available. After the meeting, Aldridge signed with the Spurs.

Miami has been in the market for frontcourt help for a while, especially a player who can help Bam Adebayo on the boards and space the floor. At age 35, Aldridge is past his prime but is shooting a respectable 36 percent from three-point range. Although he has been a great rebounder throughout his career, his rebounding average has dipped to 4.5 per game.

The Spurs are hopeful that a trade will be worked out soon. The cost is not expected to be high. Miami has multiple cap fillers (Meyers Leonard, Kelly Olynyk, Andre Iguodala) to match Aldridge’s $24 million salary. We will see if Aldridge actually lands in South Beach this time.
