Report: Falcons Sign Todd Gurley

Former Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley, who was released yesterday by the Rams along with linebacker Clay Matthews, wasn’t unemployed for long.

The Atlanta Falcons have signed the running back to a one-year deal just a couple of seasons after he was was arguably the best at his position in the NFL.

The Rams were actively seeking a trade for Gurley before he was released; potential suitors were the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Atlanta Falcons. When they were unable to find a trade they liked, they released Gurley on Thursday.

The Falcons released veteran running back Devonta Freeman earlier this week.

With this signing, the Falcons now boast a top-five wide receiver in Julio Jones, a top-tier quarterback in Matt Ryan and now a three-time 1,000-yards rusher and Pro Bowl selection in Gurley.

In a division that features the Saints’ big three (Drew Brees, Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara), the Panthers (Christian McCaffrey and Teddy Bridgewater), and the Buccaneers (Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and now Tom Brady), the Falcons are making moves in hopes of keeping pace in the NFC South.

This should be one of the most exciting divisions in the league next season.
