The Kansas City Chiefs have officially used their franchise tag on 25-year-old defensive lineman Chris Jones.
No surprise, but Chiefs are placing franchise tag on DT Chris Jones today, per source.

The star tackle has been a monster in Kansas City and the Chiefs were undoubtedly bringing him back. This move has been expected since February but was confirmed today. Jones will make a whopping $16 million with this tag.
Jones had nine sacks with 23 tackles and 13 assisted tackles in his 2019 Super Bowl campaign. His best season was 2018 when he had 15.5 sacks but was snubbed from the Pro Bowl.
Jones is a one-time All-Pro, although he has always been immensely valuable. The Chiefs stole him in the third-round of the 2016 draft and he has been a cornerstone since. Aside from the past season where Jones only played in 13 games, he has played full seasons in the other three years of his career.
This is interesting because the Chiefs now have Frank Clark on a big deal plus Jones, as well as former MVP Patrick Mahomes waiting on a payout. Most certainly, the increased salary cap will go in the Chiefs’ favor for 2020.
