The quarterback carousel that is the 2021 offseason continues. Just a few short weeks after Matthew Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Jared Goff and two first-round picks, the Philadelphia Eagles have shipped Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts. In return, the Eagles get a third-round pick this year and a conditional second-round pick in 2022.

Philadelphia Eagles
This comes a week after the Chicago Bears were reported to have Wentz firmly in their grasps. The original asking price for Wentz was a first-round pick. Philadelphia was in a horrible place cap-wise, coming in at a touch over 47 in the negative. Relieving the Wentz contract does get them in the right direction, despite taking on a $30 million dead cap hit. The Eagles now turn to Jalen Hurts at the quarterback spot, but are in a good position to get one of the top four quarterbacks in the class with the sixth pick if they so choose.
Indianapolis Colts
For Indianapolis, this is perfect. After Philip Rivers retired, the only quarterback signed to the roster for next year was Jacob Eason, the team’s fourth-round pick in 2020. Jacoby Brissett was a free agent and the Colts have the 21st pick in the first round. Now, the Colts have their quarterback and are once again primed to make a deep playoff run after coming up just short in the Wild Card Round against the Bills. The best part? The Colts didn’t even have to give up their first-round pick this year.
The second-round pick next year could turn into a first-round pick next year if Wentz plays 75 percent of the snaps or if he plays 70 percent of the snaps and the Colts make the playoffs. The Colts can now turn to the draft to plug the rest of their holes on the roster. They also have a ton of cap space, even with Wentz now on the roster. Wentz now pairs up with his former Offensive Coordinator Frank Reich in Indianapolis. The Colts now have one of the top defenses in the league, along with one of the top offensive lines in the league. They also have Jonathan Taylor, one of the best young running backs in the league. If the Colts can get a left tackle and a wide receiver to pair with Michael Pittman Jr, their offense is armed and ready for the 2021 season.
Chicago Bears
For Chicago, this isn’t good. They aren’t in a great spot to draft one of the top quarterbacks in the draft. Now with Stafford and Wentz off the trade block, they set their sights on Marcus Mariota or Gardner Minshew, with Derek Carr and Deshaun Watson seeming unlikely to get traded at this moment.
