Redskins’ Trent Williams Requests Trade or Release

It has been known for weeks that Trent Williams has wanted out of the District of Columbia. He and his agent, Vince Taylor, have now said that Williams must get traded or released. They mean business.

This past April, Williams had a surgical procedure done to remove cancer from his head as he was diagnosed with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP). The growth was first discovered in 2013 and Williams claimed that the Redskins were unphased by it. There were many other complications along the way but due to the poor handling of that cancer situation, Williams demanded a trade or release as a bi-product of the poorly handled situation.  Fast forward to October, when he filed for reinstatement and was not physically able to. He missed the 2019 season but despite that, he remains the game’s top left tackle.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound 31-year-old has played in 120 career games dating back to his first-round selection in 2010 up to today. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl seven times and is a one-time Second-Team All-Pro.

The Redskins have had a high price for trade and may have to release him if they can’t find a team that matches their asking price.

However, whether it’s through trade or release, Williams will have many suitors, such as the Chargers, Browns, Jets, and Vikings.

The real deal-breaker right now is whether or not those teams will agree with the Redskins’ asking price.
