The Washington Redskins travel to Charlotte on Sunday, Dec. 1 to play the Carolina Panthers for a Week 13 matchup. The Redskins lead the all-time series, 8-6, but the Panthers have won the last five of six games, losing the last time two teams met last October. Carolina is heavily favored to win the game with an 80.5 percent win probability despite several players being placed on Injured Reserve this past week.
Washington Redskins Notables
The Redskins enter Week 13 after winning against Detroit last week and are coming into the game 2-9 on the season. Washington has recorded an average of 253.4 offensive and 369 defensive yards per week so far this season and rookie Dwayne Haskins has completed 59 of 108 passes for 108 yards, two touchdowns, six interceptions and a 55.9 rating. Adrian Peterson leads the Redskins with 134 carries for 543 yards and one touchdown while rookie Terry McLaurin leads with 40 receptions for 638 yards and five touchdowns. Matt Ioannidis leads the team with five-and-a-half sacks while Quinton Dunbar has four interceptions on the season. Kicker Dustin Hopkins has a perfect extra point record on the season with 10 out 10 attempts and has successfully put 16 of 20 field goals through the posts.
Offense
Haskins was named the starting quarterback for the rest of the season in early November when Case Keenum entered the concussion protocol. Haskins recorded his first career win against the Lions last week.
Peterson is going for his fourth game in a row on the road with more than 100 scrimmage yards following a posting of 369 scrimmage yards in his last four road games and has scored three touchdowns in his three career games against Carolina. Peterson ranks fifth in the NFL history with 107 rushing touchdowns and sixth with 13,861 rush yards. He should surpass Hall of Famer Curtis Martin for the fifth-most rushing yards in league history.
McLaurin led the Redskins with five catches and 72 receiving yards last week and has four or more catches in his first four career games on the road. McLaurin leads all rookies in receiving yards and is tied for first place with 40 receptions and tied for second in receiving touchdowns so far this season.
Another Redskins rookie, Steven Sims, recorded a 91-yard kick return touchdown last week and is the fifth Washington rookie since 1970 to achieve this exciting play.
Defense
On the defensive side of the ball, rookie Cole Holcomb led the Redskins with 13 tackles against the Lions along with his first career sack and is hoping for his third game in a row with tackles for loss. Matt Ioannidis is also going for his fourth consecutive game with a sack, as well as his third such in a row against a team from the NFC South.
Fabian Moreau recorded his first career game with two interceptions last week and Quinton Dunbar posted his ninth career interception against the Lions. Landon Collins is going for his fifth game on the road with nine or more tackles and posted 10 tackles including two tackles for loss last in Week 12.
Injuries
The Redskins will be without Paul Richardson, Jr. due to a hamstring injury and Ryan Kerrigan due to concussion. Chris Thompson is probable with a toe injury, and Dwayne Haskins (wrist) will play.
Carolina Panthers Notables
The Panthers enter Week 13 after a disappointing loss to New Orleans last week and are 5-6 on the season, posting an average of 347 offensive yards and 367.1 defensive yards. Kyle Allen has completed 198 of 320 passes for 2,179 yards, 13 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and a rating of 83.8. Christian McCaffrey has posted an impressive 221 carries for 1,123 yards and 12 touchdowns while D.J. Moore leads the teams with 68 receptions for 905 yards and three touchdowns so far this season. Mario Addison has kept the lead all season in sacks, as he’s up to eight, and James Bradberry and Donte Jackson each have three interceptions. Rookie kicker Joey Slye, who missed crucial kicks in the loss against New Orleans last week, has recorded 22 of 26 extra points and 19 of 26 field goal attempts.
Offense
Despite the loss last week, quarterback Allen had a better week than he has had in weeks prior; he passed for 256 yards and three touchdowns versus zero touchdowns for a 112.7 rating, his second career game with three or more touchdowns.
Christian McCaffrey continues to break records every week, even in losses. In last week’s game against the Saints, he posted 133 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. While impressive, this is below his season average as the Saints kept him well defended. McCaffrey is only one of two players in league history with 20 or more rushing touchdowns and 15 or more receiving touchdowns in the first three seasons of their career. So far this season McCaffrey has eight touchdowns in five home games and is going for his fourth home game with 160 or more scrimmage yards as he leads the NFL with 1,709 scrimmage yards and is the first player with more than 1,700 scrimmage yards in the first 11 weeks of the season since Priest Holmes in 2002.
D.J. Moore also had a decent week in Week 12, recording six catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns, which was his first career game with two receiving touchdowns. Moore has recorded 100 or more receiving yards in the last three of four games and is aiming for his fifth game in a row with 95 or more receiving yards.
Curtis Samuel has posted a touchdown in two of the last three games against the NFC East and Greg Olsen also put a receiving touchdown on the books in the last home meeting.
Defense
Luke Keuchly recorded two pass deflections last week against the Saints and posted 10 tackles and two tackles for loss in the last meeting as well as a forced fumble and fumble recovery in the last home meeting. Keuchly has 96 tackles on the season and will be going for at least four tackles on Sunday for his eighth 100 tackles season.
Addison is going for his third game in a row at home with a sack and forced fumble and has two-and-a-half sacks in three career games against Washington.
Gerald McCoy has two-and-a-half sacks in his last three games against Washington and has posted four sacks in his last four games against the NFC East.
Rookie Brian Burns also posted a sack last week and ranks fourth among rookies with five-and-a-half sacks so far this season. Last week, Eric Reid recorded a career-high 15 tackles and is going for his fourth game in a row at home with eight or more tackles.
Injuries
Jordan Scarlett is the only Panther listed as out for Sunday’s game with a knee/ankle injury. Greg Little is listed as doubtful with an ankle injury, and Taylor Moton and Eric Reid are listed as questionable with knee and ankle/shoulder injuries, respectively.
