Red Sox Trade Osich to Chicago Cubs

Red Sox Trade Osich to Cubs: Josh Osich

Theo Epstein is having himself a field day in Chicago this afternoon.

With just minutes before the start of the trade deadline, the Boston Red Sox traded left-handed reliever Josh Osich to the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later. This occurred after acquiring left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin from the Arizona Diamondbacks an hour before the deadline.

Osich adds another lefty to the Cubs’ bullpen, joining Kyle Ryan and Jose Quintana (if he does not move to the rotation). In 13 games for the Red Sox, the Oregon State product has a 1-1 record with a 5.74 ERA in 15.2 innings pitched.

He gave up 10 total earned runs, but five came from a single appearance, slightly inflating his numbers. Expect the Cubs to utilize him in middle-inning play, especially against left-handed batters. In his career, Osich has held lefties to a .211 batting average with a .665 OPS.

As of today, the Cubs are currently sitting in first place in the National League Central, 3.5 games over the St. Louis Cardinals.
