Red Sox Notebook: J.D. Martinez Still an Option for the Sox

The signing of Mitch Moreland to a two-year contract with the Red Sox likely closed the door on Eric Hosmer, but there is still hope for J.D. Martinez.

President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski, alluded that the organization is still searching for a middle of the order big hitter.

“We still continue to feel that we have the opportunity to add someone else to our club from an offensive perspective that won’t be a first baseman,” said Dombrowski. “But we feel we have a [designated hitter slot], and that between [Hanley Ramirez] and if I could find someone else to DH and play outfield spots, that would give us plenty of at-bats and opportunities for somebody to contribute in a full-time fashion.”

Martinez would undoubtably be a positive addition to the roster, but the jury is still out on whether or not Dombrowski will finally make a move. Talk around the organization has been relatively quiet this offseason, but hopefully for Red Sox fans, transactions will be made soon.

David Ortiz gets his very own TV show

Boston’s favorite big hitter will be returning to television screens next month, but not in the way that you might expect.

Former Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz will star in his own docu-series on Fusion called “Big Papi Needs a Job.”

The show will follow Ortiz as he embarks on his post-MLB journey and will feature the former slugger attempting various jobs such as a pet groomer, manicurist, and stadium tour guide.
