Red Sox Notebook: Beloved Broadcaster Finishes Cancer Treatment

Boston Red Sox television analyst Jerry Remy took to social media on Tuesday to report that he has finished his last round of cancer treatment.

Remy, a long time smoker, was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2008. Since then, the 65-year-old legend has fought off the disease four times. Most recently, Remy underwent lung surgery in June, followed by chemotherapy treatment. He returned to the Fenway broadcast booth in September amidst his treatment.

Remy rung the bell at Massachusetts General Hospital to commemorate the completion of his treatment.

He posted to Twitter: “It started in June with surgery chemo and 5 weeks of radiation. It ended today. Finished. Thanks to the team at MGH and the support I got from many people. To my co-patients stay strong. Now a little time to gain strength and down to the Fort. Go Pats”

Red Sox offered J.D. Martinez $100 million deal

ESPN’s Buster Olney reported on Wednesday that “Boston’s offer to J.D. Martinez is in the range of five years, $100 million.”

Martinez, 30, is among the most sought-after candidates on the market this offseason, and it is no secret that the Red Sox have been at a standoff with Martinez’s agent Scott Boras.

The amount that the Sox reportedly offered Martinez is merely half of what Boras was seeking for the slugger coming into free agency. Moreover, the pair is likely seeking a more long-term contract.

Red Sox fans are still hopeful that President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski will find a way to secure a deal with Martinez, but as Spring Training draws closer, the odds are looking less and less likely.
