Red Sox Call up Top Prospect Rafael Devers

After losing out on Todd Frazier, the Red Sox called up prospect Rafael Devers from Triple-A Pawtucket Sunday evening to fill a glaring void at third base.

Devers played just eight games in Pawtucket after getting moved up from Double-A over a week ago. While in Double-A, the 20-year-old was hitting .305/.373/.575 with 19 doubles, three triples, and 18 home runs in 77 games.

In Triple-A, the top prospect hit .355/.412/ 581 with two home runs prior to Dave Dombrowski calling him up.

The worry many fans and the Red Sox face with this move is that Devers is still a kid. Without the experience, jumping into the bigs to play for a team that is in first place in the American League East is a large leap.

According to Dombrowski, Devers will join the team Monday in Seattle and is not expected to start until Tuesday.
