Reaction to Heat vs Cavaliers

Jacari McRae | November 15th, 2019

This week, the Miami Heat has been building up big leads. And they also have given them up as well. Playing from ahead has been an ongoing lesson for the team, which was the case against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday. After trailing by as many as 27 in the second half, the Cavaliers crept back into the game and cut the Heat’s lead to 10 midway into the fourth quarter. Ultimately, the Heat left Cleveland with a 108-97 victory to improve their record to 8-3 for the season.

With that said, here are my takeaways from Thursday’s victory over the Cavaliers.

Bam fills the stat sheet

Bam Adebayo has established himself as one of the most well-rounded big men in the league, making things happen as a finisher, distributor, and defender. Bam’s high-level passing skills as a big man has been a huge part of the Heat’s improved offense. Adebayo also played terrific defense on Kevin Love, who was a problem for the Heat’s other big men. Adebayo finished the game with 16 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists.

Nunn’s playmaking

Kendrick Nunn can score the basketball. We all know that. He’s already had five games of 20 points or more for the season. However, he’s struggled with making the right passes. On Thursday, he was better in that area of his game. Nunn dished out a career-high eight assists.

Nunn ended the night with 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting,  five rebounds, and eight assists.

Herro Returns

After missing Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Pistons due to a sprained ankle, rookie guard Tyler Herro was back in uniform on Thursday. Herro looked good in his first game back, moving well on his hurt ankle and scoring on some great looks. He also drew a couple of fouls. Herro finished the night with 16 points.

Next up: The Heat host the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday. Game tips off at 8pm ET
