Reacting to Heat’s Victory Over the Knicks

Miami Heat Heating Up

The Miami Heat knew this was going to be a tough game. The New York Knicks entered Sunday’s game ranked number one in team defense. Both teams went back and forth for the majority of the game. Miami was able to create separation in the last minute of the game. They played terrific defense and hit timely shots. The win moves the team to 9-14 for the season.

With that said, here are my three takeaways from Sunday’s game.

Bam leads the way

Bam Adebayo led the way with 24 points for the Heat. Adebayo continued to do everything the team asks of him. He still plays passive at times. On one play, he shook Mitchell Robinson with a nice handle but passed it back out. He did, however, have a few moments where he shot the ball with confidence at the end of the shot clock. We know he has the ability to shoot and score. He just has to show more confidence in his abilities.

Adebayo finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists.

Herro comfortable in new role

This was Tyler Herro‘s second consecutive game off the bench. Herro appears to be very comfortable in his new role. For starters, it allows him to play with more freedom as the primary ball hander against second units. He continued to play well by scoring and finding his teammates for open looks. Despite playing off the bench, he still played starter minutes and closed the game in the end. His three-pointer in the last minute of the game ended up being the dagger.

Herro finished with 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Defending the three remains an issue

A negative takeaway from Sunday’s game is Miami’s perimeter defense from three-point range. It’s been an issue all season long. New York normally doesn’t take a lot of three-pointers or make a lot. But Sunday was different. The Knicks were able to get open from three and shoot them with confidence. Knicks guard Reggie Bullock had six three-pointers in the first half.

New York finished the game shooting 16-of-42 (38.1%) from three-point range.

Next up: The New York Knicks. Game starts at 7:30 pm ET.
