As December gets underway, so does midweek Premier League matchups. Following a weekend full of derbies, the Premier League continues with exciting matchups today and tomorrow.
Match of the Week: Manchester United vs Arsenal
Following an emphatic North London Derby victory where Arsenal dominated Tottenham 4-2, Unai Emery’s men will have a lot of momentum going for them heading into this game, while Manchester United came back from 2-0 down at Southampton to draw 2-2. Jose Mourinho’s seventh-place United sit eight points behind the fourth-place Arsenal and have been struggling to catch any sort of form this season.
United drew their last two games, and lost the game before to Manchester City, while Arsenal has not lost since August. The newly appointed Emery is leading a red-hot Arsenal side into Old Trafford with all of the reason to be favorites in this matchup. Arsenal’s exciting play will have to find a way through Mourinho’s bus parked at the back, but with United’s -1 goal difference, they should be able to find a way through. A win for United would possibly give some light in Jose’s world, but they will need to find consistent form and their way into the top four for that to happen.
The match kicks off Wednesday at 3 p.m. EST.
Matches to Watch
Everton vs Newcastle
Following a disappointing 1-0 loss where Divock Origi put the Toffees away in the 96th minute, Everton will look to bounce back against 15th placed Newcastle. Both come into the game with inconsistent form, but as Newcastle fell 3-0 to West Ham during the weekend, Everton will look to use this game as a way to catch form and to keep up with the top five. With Manchester United hosting an in-form Arsenal, this game is a great opportunity for Everton to create a gap at sixth place.
The match kicks off at 2:45 p.m. EST.
Watford vs Manchester City
Tuesday’s 3 p.m. game sees Watford hosting unbeaten Manchester City in a game that should be easily won by the Citizens. Pep Guardiola’s side has been unstoppable in the Premier League, winning 12 and drawing two of their 14 games. The Watford game is a midweek matchup before City battles it out with Chelsea at the weekend, and though City is full of depth, it will be interesting to see if Watford can capitalize on the midweek rotation. Though City has depth in the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Vincent Company, John Stones, and Gabriel Jesus, so it will be unlikely that Guardiola’s side ends its unbeaten run at Vicarage Road
The match kicks off at 3 p.m. EST.
