Predicting Where Jadeveon Clowney Lands in Free Agency

The biggest free agent this offseason was New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Now that Brady has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jadeveon Clowney is one of the biggest free agents left.

Clowney is looking for a deal that’s worth more than $20 million a year. He turned down an offer from the Miami Dolphins that would have paid him $17 million a season, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. It appears that Clowney is waiting for the right deal.

“No one has met Clowney’s price or even, from what I understand, really come close to it,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said on Monday. “So at this point, it seems he is willing to wait for the right deal.”

Right now there is little interest in Clowney outside of the Seattle Seahawks, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. Let’s take a look at Clowney’s options.

New York Giants

The New York Giants are one of a few teams that have expressed interest in Clowney. The Giants are in need of an edge rusher but aren’t going to spend the money needed to get Clowney, according to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.

Clowney wants to be on a contending team. The Giants are nowhere close to being a contender.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have also expressed interest in Clowney. Indy would be able to spend the money necessary to get Clowney. They are also much closer to being a contending team than the Giants but still aren’t a championship hopeful yet.

Seattle Seahawks

Clowney was traded to the Seahawks after three seasons with the Houston Texans. The Seahawks have made offers to Clowney. Their first offer was $13.5 million and the most that they have offered is $18.5 million, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.

The $18.5 million offer is close to Clowney’s $20 million-per-year target. The Seahawks are also a contending team and could definitely win a Super Bowl.

Prediction

Clowney will stay with the Seahawks. Seattle can pay him close to what he wants and they are contenders.
