Welcome back to Corrigan’s Gambling corner.
When I last left you, we were in the middle of the NBA season and gearing up for the NCAA March Madness tournament, then everything went to hell. With sports returning at the end of July, I figured this is the time to look at some futures bets.
My last Corrigan’s Gambling Corner left me with a 2020 record of 17-17-1. Not bad, but I can do better. Well, we are going to consider this post-Covid gambling series a new “year.” This is now the introduction of “Post-Covid Corrigan’s Gambling Corner.”
MLB Over/Unders
Indians O/32- Don’t be fooled by the Indians missing the playoffs last season, this is still a very good team. They won 93 games last season and were in the driver’s seat to host the Wild Card game before a slew of injuries and a September collapse. The Indians own one of the best defensive infields in baseball and once again, have one of, if not the best, starting rotations in baseball headlined by Shane Bieber and Mike Clevinger. Look for the Indians to battle with the Twins to win the AL Central or a Wild Card spot.
Blue Jays O/28- Ah yes, my first “no real reason” pick of the season. My love for this team cannot be put into words. I love their young core of Cavan Biggio, Bo Bichette, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The Blue Jays are going to be a lot of fun offensively. On the Pitching side………eh. The signing of Hyun-Jin Ryu certainly helps a weak rotation but the Blue Jays will need big production outside of Ryu to compete. But I have a hunch that the Blue Jays will take a big step this season.
Nationals U/34- Yes, I think the defending World Series champions will take a big step back. Outside of losing Anthony Rendon to the Angels, this team has mostly stayed together. But do not forget, this team was 19-31 through 50 games. Down the stretch, the Nationals seemed like a team of destiny rather than skill. Don’t get me wrong, they are very talented, but I see a big step back for this team in a shortened season.
Rays U/34- One season the Rays are good, the next season they are average. a 34 O/U would put them as one of the best teams in baseball and I just don’t see it. A big part of this will be which Blake Snell are we getting this season. I think the Rays will compete for a Wild Card spot, but they will have one of the hardest schedules having to face the Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Mets, Phillies, Braves, and Nationals.
