Through four weeks of the 2019 NFL season, 29 teams have lost at least one game, but there are three elite teams who haven’t lost a game. Those three teams being the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, and Kansas City Chiefs. In today’s article, I will go over how they got here and how long their undefeated streaks may last.
New England Patriots
One word comes to mind when I think of the Patriots. Dominance. They’ve held their opponents to under 15 points in all four of their games, and have scored 30 plus points on three different occasions. Tom Brady has led the offense with seven touchdowns to only one interception, Devin McCourty has recorded one interception in every game to total four so far, and the defense has been impressive overall.
Not much more to say about this team other than the fact that they have totally dominated and looked unstoppable. They’re definitely the most likely of the three undefeated teams to go 16-0. Their schedule doesn’t get harder till later in the season, and in December they have a game against the Chiefs on primetime so that’s the only game I could really foresee them losing as of right now.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs haven’t exactly dominated so far, but they are 4-0 and the main reason for this is because Patrick Mahomes is once again lighting the league on fire and looks to be an early MVP favorite. The defense, however, leaves something to be desired, allowing 25 plus points three times and allowing multiple garbage time touchdowns to make their week three game against the Ravens closer then it should’ve been.
They have games against the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans coming up but both of those games are at home so the earliest I could see them losing is week nine against the Packers. This team will definitely lose at least two or three games as their schedule gets really tough later in the season with an away game against the Chicago Bears and an away game against the Patriots. I could see this team going 14-2 at best. Their defense needs to step up before I could see them going undefeated.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are the surprise team here, at 3-0 they stand ready to take on the Browns on Monday Night Football at home, and with their stellar defense, they have a chance in this game. Their defense has already forced more turnovers than last year. Their offense is turnover happy though, which this team needs to work on; ball security. The Browns are an opportunist team with quality defensive players who will take any and all opportunity to take away the ball and give it to their potent offense.
In the long term, I could see the 49ers going 11-5 at best, and that would give them their first playoff birth in the Jimmy Garoppolo era. They also have a real shot at winning the NFC West division. I love this team’s fight and their sudden turn around from last season. They have a chance to do some damage in the playoffs potentially.
In conclusion, this NFL season hasn’t been a kind one to teams trying to put together a good start, so this is why there are only three teams here. I hope you all enjoyed!
