EDMONTON, Alberta— Winning ten of their last eleven games, the Boston Bruins continued their hot stretch on Wednesday night as David Pastrnak led the way.
Meeting in their second and final game of the season, the Edmonton Oilers hosted the Bruins as they made their lone visit to Rogers Place a positive one.
Hitting close to home, Bruins left-winger and Edmonton native Jake DeBrusk, played in front of family and friends during his homecoming. The DeBrusk’s shared a special moment rink-side before the game as SportsNet reporter and former Oiler Louie DeBrusk interviewed his son Jake. The interview ended with Jake telling Louie, “Thanks. Love you, dad.”

Midway through the first period, one of the top lines in the NHL continued to shine. Patrice Bergeron scored the first goal of the game thanks to a beautiful feed from line-mates Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak. With Bergeron’s goal, the 16-year veteran now has five goals in his last six games. Bruins Goalie Tuukka Rask continued his solid season, stopping 28 shots on 29 attempts.

After a stagnant second period, the Oilers came out with energy in the third. After a Bruins penalty on Karson Kuhlman for tripping Oilers Caleb Johnson, the Oilers got their chance. An Ethan Bear shot on goal lead to a Sam Gagner deflection for the power-play goal. Gagner’s fifth goal of the season would knot things up at one.
Late into the third period, Pastrnak’s wrist shot would just miss, ringing off the post, past the ear of Oilers goalie Mike Smith. A chip that Pastrnak would wear on his shoulder going into the overtime period.
In overtime, Pastrnak got his revenge. After a heads up pass from David Krejci, Pastrnak scored a goal that would fit just under the 6’5 stature of Smith’s five-hole for the win.

Improving to an NHL best record 38-11-12, the Bruins have now won five in a row.
