Paris Saint-Germain Start To Their 2020-2021 Ligue 1 Season

Saint-Germain

Three games into their 2020-2021 Ligue 1 season and Paris Saint-Germain is not off to a hot start. Two losses and an unconvincing win is a bad image for Les Parisiens. Right now, they’re nowhere near the team they were a few weeks ago.

Les Parisiens are facing a lot of issues. Before the season began, Kylian Mbappe tested positive for Covid-19 and his return is unknown. Neymar also tested positive along with several other PSG players earlier this month. Neymar missed the opening game but did start in the second match against Olympique de Marseille, however, not only did PSG lose that match but the ending was in a catastrophic and chaotic manner. At this point, to say that Paris Saint-Germain is in a pickle would be a major understatement. Les Parisiens are dealing with a lot of drama.

In the closing seconds of their match against Olympique de Marseille, a brawl broke out, resulting in five players receiving a red card. Neymar was one of those players and he’s been handed a two-game. PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa received a six-game ban for kicking OM player Jordan Amavi. Amavi is suspended for three games for his role while his teammate Dario Benedetto is suspended for one game.

French football authorities are reportedly launching an investigation as Neymar reportedly claims that OM player Alvaro Gonzalez threw a racial slur at him. However, reports also indicate that Neymar allegedly threw a homophobic slur at Gonzalez.

Furthermore, PSG midfielder Angel Di Maria faces accusations of allegedly spitting at Gonzalez. Di Maria could face a lengthy suspension as a result. Di Maria will present himself to the French Ligue 1 disciplinary commission next week and a decision regarding a suspension is expected to be made. Losing Di Maria really hurts the club as he’s an important asset to the club.

On the bright side, Marquinhos and Mauro Icardi are back on the squad. Mbappe, however, may miss at least two or three more games.

With several key players out due to injury and suspension, the level of drama continues to rise. On a positive note, PSG is coming off a 1-0 win against Metz, although, the results from the game are poor. Right now, winning is the only thing that matters for Les Parisiens.

PSG plays its next Ligue 1 game on Sunday against Nice. Les Parisiens must begin a winning streak and keep it alive. With all the drama going on and how it’s likely to rise more, PSG must fight hard to regain their confidence, their pride, and momentum.

Paris Saint-Germain is hoping to have its full squad back by the time the 2020-2021 Champions League begins.
