The 2020 MLB season got underway this past weekend. On the Southside of Chicago, the White Sox hosted the Minnesota Twins. For the first time, the team’s new additions were on display.
Pitcher Dallas Keuchel was on the mound for the middle game of the three-game series. The added power to the offense took the field as well.
The Twins took the series, winning two out of three. They outscored the White Sox, 27-17.
Friday’s game saw ace Lucas Giolito surrender seven runs in 3.2 innings, including a pair of home runs to Max Kepler. The bullpen gave up three more runs. Offensively, Yoan Moncada recorded his first home run of the season. The Sox lost, 10-5.

Dallas Keuchel made his White Sox debut by starting Saturday’s game. Through five innings, he allowed just one hit. He was pulled in the sixth after two runners reached base with only one outs. Those two runs would eventually score in the inning.

Keuchel was aided by the offense finding the long ball. Leury Garcia homered twice. Edwin Encarnacion, Eloy Jimenez and James McCann also recorded homers in the 10-3 victory.
Sunday’s rubber match featured Reynaldo Lopez on the bump. He gave up four runs in only 0.2 innings before leaving the game with a shoulder injury. Gio Gonzalez didn’t fare much better in relief. He accounted for six runs given up and didn’t even last four full innings. Kelvin Herrera gave up four runs of his own in two innings.
Nelson Cruz homered twice for the Twins, notching four hits and seven RBI in total.
Luis Robert added his first career home run in the White Sox’ 14-2 loss.
The biggest takeaway from this series is obviously the starting pitching. While it’s only been three games, the arms will have to be better.
Offensively, it seemed like a long ball or nothing, which wouldn’t be as noticeable if the pitching didn’t get tagged for so many runs.
The team travels to Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, for a three-game series against the Indians starting Monday.
