With the bullpen in total disarray and the starting rotation injured, should the Boston Red Sox sign Julio Teheran?
This offseason casts a lot of superstar pitchers testing the waters in free agency this winter. Alas, as the Sox don’t want to spend a lot of cash, but there are still great pitchers who could be signed to affordable deals. For this to work, however, Nathan Eovaldi and Rick Porcello gotta go.
Teheran can give what the Red Sox need out of a pitcher, durability, and innings. Last season, he pitched in 174.2 innings sporting a 3.81 ERA, with 162 strikeouts, 83 walks, and a 10-11 record. Those numbers give me, and other Red Sox fans mixed emotions. Here’s why! While he is an innings eater, his win-loss record is almost the same, you could pin the culprit on Atlanta’s offense or defense for not bailing him out which was the tune to the song in 2019. He never received the help after the seventh inning.
In February 2014, he signed a six-year, $32.4 million contract to keep him affordably in Atlanta until now. Especially after making a mere $1 million last season. While this could make him want to chase Ryu-money, he simply won’t garner that much attention. This is why the Boston Red Sox need to sign Teheran.
