After playing from behind for the first half of Game 5, the Dodgers managed to pull off a great comeback to defeat Atlanta by a score of 7-3. While the pitching on both ends was fairly shaky in Game 5, Game 6 was a different story.
Recap
Walker Buehler started off the game by retiring the Atlanta offense in order on only five pitches. Max Fried didn’t have as easy of a time retiring the Dodgers as Corey Seager and Justin Turner went back-to-back with solo home runs. Those home runs were followed by a walk to Max Muncy, a single from Will Smith, and an RBI single from Cody Bellinger before Fried was able to finish the inning.
The second inning was very choppy for Buehler as he allowed three straight singles before retiring the next three batters on two strikeouts and a ground-out.
The next several innings were fairly uneventful, with minimal traffic on the bases for either side. Blake Treinen relieved Walker Buehler in the top of the seventh inning and promptly allowed a triple to Nick Markakis followed by a Ronald Acuñna Jr. RBI double a couple of batters later. In the bottom of the seventh inning, following a ground-out, walk, and a strikeout, Darren O’Day replaced Max Fried and recorded an out.
The rest of the game was quiet. Kenley Jansen closed out the game with a five-pitch save.
Statistics
For the Dodgers, Corey Seager and Justin Turner each hit a solo home run. Austin Barnes went two-for-three and Cody Bellinger added an RBI. On the pitching side, Walker Buehler was masterful for six innings, only allowing seven hits, all singles, and striking out six Braves. Pedro Baez had a perfect inning before Kenley Jansen added a perfect frame of his own for the save.
The Braves were fairly quiet with Acuña going one-for-four with an RBI double. Travis d’Arnaud had two hits, Dansby Swanson added three, and Nick Markakis laced a triple. Max Fried pitched 6.2 innings, allowing eight hits, three runs, four walks, and five strikeouts. Chris Martin also threw an inning, allowing a hit and a walk.
What’s Next?
The Dodgers have forced a Game 7 and will look to advance to yet another World Series. Neither team has announced a starter yet.
