Nick Foles gets his own Team in Jacksonville

In short, Nick Foles’ NFL career has been unique.

From the guy who couldn’t throw an interception, to a back-up quarterback, to Super Bowl champion and MVP, to back-up, to starter again. Not to mention playing for two teams in between his stints with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now he’s set to make $88 million over four years, with the potential to make $102 million as the quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars according to Albert Breer of the MMQB.

Foles has certainly done enough to earn himself a considerable payday, but how long will it be until things crash and burn? That’s not necessarily a knock on him. He’s shown on more than one occasion he’s capable of defying the odds. But the same cannot be said for a Jaguars organization who never found a way to make things works with Blake Bortles.

Now, Bortles didn’t help himself with his big misses downfield. but how was no one, at any point, able to get him on the right track?

So the concern doesn’t become “Will Foles become Blake Bortles?” There’s no shot of that happening, solely based on their style alone. However, what could happen is the Jaguars could find a way to mismanage their new starting quarterback. Don’t put it past this franchise.

What they also have to do is give Foles a long leash. He’s not impervious from making a few mistakes, despite his 238-pass attempt streak where he never threw an interception earlier in his career. Getting paid tons of money does not mean Jacksonville should go to DEFCON 5 if he churns out two or even three clunkers to start the year.

Looking at how he’s adjusted throughout his career, Foles won’t lose the Jaguars many ballgames. He makes reasonable decisions for the most part and has found success in moments where he was expected to fail. He’s battle-tested and low risk. It will be interesting to see how the Foles era plays out down in Jacksonville.
