Our opening night picks were a success as we hit on both of our selections. Saturday’s games feature a lot of repeat matches which will be a theme all season long. Tonight’s featured games include teams clashing for a second consecutive time. Let’s dig right into it and make some Ice Picks.

Columbus Blue Jackets -105 at Nashville Predators
Nashville took the season opener Thursday at home in a tight 3-1 affair. Expect another close tight game for stanza number two. The Jackets are a defense-first team that finished third in goals against last year with a mark of 2.61. This is arguably the hardest working team in the league that combines grittiness and structure.
John Tortorella’s squad is a great value bet in bouncing back here. As per covers.com, 65% of public money is on the Preds. Give me the Jackets here all day. Nashville is a hot and cold team that is trending in the wrong direction since last season. If Juuse Saros gets the nod consider the under (5.5). My money is strongly on the Jackets money line at -105.
Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 (+100) at Detroit Red Wings
The Canes controlled Thursdays tilt with ease 3-0 in Detroit. If it wasn’t for Thomas Greiss‘s 42 save performance it could have been much worse.
On the whole, it’s virtually impossible to back the wings in this matchup. Dating back to 2019 Carolina has owned the Wings. They have strung together four straight victories to the combined score of 17-5.
The money line isn’t really worth your while here. If Greiss gets the nod, a repeat performance is a lot to ask for against the upstart Canes. If they go to Jonathan Bernier not a whole lot changes here. That alone has me convinced that Carolina can be more than a goal better than the rebuilding Wings.
