10 games to sort through on this full Thursday NHL card. We will go over Detroit at Washington, Pittsburgh at Columbus, Vegas at Minnesota and Nashville at Toronto to give you our best recommendations at Center, Winger, Defenseman, and goalie. Strap yourself in, let’s make some Ice Picks!
CENTER
Evgeni Malkin C PIT (at CBJ)
The Penguins will look to make it two in a row on the road after dropping two straight at home. They will be matched up against the struggling Columbus Blue Jackets who have just three wins in their last 10 and have allowed an average of 3.60 goals against in the process. The Jackets are still decimated with injuries, they will be without the following key cogs: Cam Atkinson, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Josh Anderson, and arguably their best player Seth Jones.
Penguins star center, Evgeni Malkin has been feasting lately despite the team playing below expectations of late. In his last five games, Malkin has four goals and seven assists. Malkin will look to keep it going against this wounded squad who appears to be buckling down the stretch.
WINGER
Alex Ovechkin W WAS (vs. DET)
A motivated Alex Ovechkin is closing in on 50 goals. This could be a big night for the Russian star as he and the Caps will be matched up against the bottom-dwelling Detroit Red Wings who are allowing 3.70 goals against per game in their last 10.
The “Great Eight” has five snipes in his last five games and will no doubt be peppering pucks on goal to further cement himself as one of the best (soon to be the best?) goal scorers of all time.
DEFENSEMAN
Ryan Suter D MIN (vs. VGK)
Ryan Suter is quietly having a really nice season. He is the leader of this rejuvenated Wild squad that is right in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race. Suter is averaging a team-high 24.65 minutes of ice time per game this season. He has a goal and five helpers in his last six games and nine points in his last 10. Minny’s offense is rolling right along right now as they are averaging a robust 4.00 goals per game in their last 10.
The Golden Knights boast the thirteenth-best goals against per game average of 2.94.
GOALIE
Frederik Andersen G TOR (vs.NAS)
Freddie Andersen can be had on the cheap depending on which DFS sites you play on (Yahoo has had him underpriced around $24 lately). The Predators, who have won three straight, are getting it done with a defense-first approach. They are averaging only 2.40 goals per game in their last 10.
The Leafs have also been involved in low scoring games of late as they have allowed an average of 2.70 goals in their last 10, an improvement to the season-long mark of 3.17.
