NHL DFS DraftKings Ice Picks October 17th, 2019

Joel Dorcas | October 17th, 2019

Welcome in to another edition of Ice Picks. A nice nine-gamer on tap for us tonight. The slate has been trimmed down here to three games, Boston and Tampa are also on my radar but isn’t featured. (We should have some exposure to that game too as they are arguably the best two teams in the East). Teams with the best match-ups are as follows: Vegas at home to the Senators, Calgary home to the Red Wings and the Rangers at the bottom feeders, the New Jersey Devils. Let’s go for a skate and make some Ice Picks.

CORE MUST-HAVES

Mark Stone VGK W $7,700

Vegas appears to be the team in the most obvious spot to produce tonight as they host a team in the Ottawa Senators who have allowed the 26th most goals against in the league at 3.8 per contest. Vegas is humming along just fine, they are averaging a seventh-best 3.7 goals per game. Stone will be facing his former team in this one and it’s hard to imagine he won’t continue his pace, he has points in all but one of the seven games to date, notching multi-point performances in four games.

Artemi Panarin NYR W $6,300

The “breadman” is off to a decent enough start with four points in three games. The matchup here, along with the price is enticing. Panarin is an elite talent with a low price against a vulnerable Devils squad. The Devils are mostly a young team who has a suspect defense with questionable goaltending. They are still in search of their first victory.  Last season Panarin tallied four points in four games versus Jersey. New Jersey ranks as the second-worst club in goals against per game at 4.5.

Johnny Gaudreau W CGY $6,600

Gaudreau’s salary is somewhat curious as his ceiling and floor are just as good as anyone on the slate. Gaudreau and the Flames will be in a good spot versus a struggling Detroit Red Wings team who has allowed 10 goals in their last two games. The Flames have yet to hit their stride offensively as they are averaging just 2.4 goals per game so far but the Wings come into this one allowing 3.5 per contest as well as 33.5 shots against per game. Last season the total went over in each of the two games played between the two, as Calgary were winners at a combined score of 11-7.

VALUE PLAYS

Cody Glass  VGK W $3,900

The Golden Knights have a deep group of forwards that just got better this season with the addition of first-year player Cody Glass. Glass has five points already this season and is getting first-line power-play minutes. The $3.9 K price tag is really nice here, grab it while you can.

Rasmus Andersson  CGY D $3,300

A lot to like with Rasmus Andersson. Even though he is listed on the third defensive pairing, he is still averaging just over 18 minutes a game and is also getting samples of power-play time on the second unit. If you are looking to fill out your roster with a cheap defenseman, Andersson is totally in play. He has 14 shots and nine blocks to go along with a goal and a helper in seven games.

Brett Howden NYR C $3,200

The Rangers vs Devils could be a fun one to follow tonight as neither team, especially New Jersey, is the most stout defensively. Howden has just recently been promoted to the second line and will center a line between offensively gifted wingers Chris Kreider and first-round stud-in-the-making Kaapo Kakko. For just $3,2 K Howden is definitely worth a flyer.

STACK ‘EM

  1. Vegas Golden Knights-Stone(W), Glass(W), Pacioretty(W), Theodore(D)
  2. Calgary Flames-Gaudreau(W), Monahan(C), Tkachuk(W), Andersson(D)
  3. New York Rangers– Panarrin(W), Zibenajad(C), Kreider(W), Howden(C)

Good luck to everyone tonight, keep grinding out those lineups!

This evenings’ slate of five games has been trimmed down to three. The ever-improving Chicago Blackhawks travel to Vegas to play the struggling Golden Knights. The Senators visit the New Jersey Devils in a game that has more appeal than it would a few weeks ago as both teams are making small strides to improve. Finally, in what could be the game of the night, the Washington Capitals will square off with divisional rivals, the Philadelphia Flyers. Lace-em’up ladies and gents, time to make some Ice Picks!
