Every week billions of dollars are wagered on the NFL. The most popular type of bet is the spread. Each week there are a few games with an appealing spread and others with an ugly spread. To help bettors figure out which spreads they should bet on and which to avoid, two of our NFL writers, Mike Fanelli and Dale Money, give their take on every spread for each of this weekend’s games.
To recap, last week, Mike finished with a 4-10 record while Dale finished 7-7. For the year, Mike is 67-85-2 while Dale is 77-75-2. Let’s take a look at their picks for Week 12.
Spreads are provided by Jazz Sportsbook. Please bet responsibly.

The Team to Bet
Mike: Minnesota Vikings +3
Last week the Vikings pulled off the upset victory over the Green Bay Packers despite Aaron Rodgers throwing for over 380 yards and four touchdowns. It was the second week in a row the Vikings were underdogs, yet came away with the outright victory. The Vikings are 5-0 against the spread as an underdog this season, winning four of those games outright. Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers are 3-5 against the spread as the favored team this season. They have lost four of those games outright. While they had the impressive win over the Los Angeles Rams two weeks ago, the 49ers lost the Arizona Cardinals without Kyler Murray the week before. Don’t be surprised if the Vikings win this game outright.
Dale: Carolina Panthers -2
The Miami Dolphins look to build on their winning streak after three straight victories. Comparatively to the Panthers, none of those three teams presented much of a defensive challenge. In terms of yards allowed per game, the Panthers rank second behind the Buffalo Bills. Meanwhile, the Dolphins haven’t been able to stop a nose bleed this season. Cam Newton has gotten off to a strong start already in his second stint as Panthers starting quarterback. He continues to run well even at his advanced age and should exploit some holes. The Panthers will handily cover the small spread in a bounce-back win.
The Team to Avoid
Mike: Tennessee Titans +7
The New England Patriots are one of the hottest teams in the NFL, winning their past five games by an average of 25 points per game. They were the favorite in four of those games, winning by at least 18 points in each of those matchups. More importantly, the Patriots are 5-3 against the spread this season as the favored team. Meanwhile, the Titans were embarrassed by the Houston Texans last week, losing 22-13. Tomorrow they won’t have several key starters, including Derrick Henry, A.J. Brown, Julio Jones, and Jeremy McNichols. If the Patriots win this game, they could take over as the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Expect the Patriots to come out and steamroll the Titans at home.
Dale: New York Giants +4
Over the last four games, Jalen Hurts has kept his team competitive, with his only defeat coming through a hard-fought loss against the Los Angeles Chargers. He now faces a Giants pass defense that ranks as one of the poorest in the NFL in average passing yards allowed per game with 375.4. The Giants could give the Philadelphia Eagles a solid fight. However, Hurts and the running game will be too much for the Giants, giving the Eagles the runaway victory.
