Yes, there are no live sports going on but the NFL draft is only a few days away and we got massive news! Rob Gronkowski is unretiring and will be playing with his quarterback, Tom Brady, once again, this time in Tampa Bay.
The News Itself
Gronkowski has been on the record in the past saying he would only play for Brady. Famously, he blocked a trade to the Detriot Lions a few years back, threatening to retire if he was traded. Now, the duo of Brady and Gronk lives on in the sunshine state.
Per Jay Glazer and other major analysts following this deal, Gronk has already passed his physical and the deal is official. The former New England Patriots’ tight end, who retired a year ago, will be traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, along with a 2020 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2020 fourth-round pick.
The last we’ve seen from Gronk, he was doing commercials and performing in the WWE. He has plenty of time to get back into football shape and rebuild the chemistry with his former quarterback once again.
Being lead by Brady, Gronk, Mike Evans, and up and coming superstar, Chris Godwin, the Buccaneers’ offense is going to be one of the best in the league this year. The NFC South is going to be one of the most, if not the most, competitive divisions in football this season.
Quick Fantasy Outlook
Clearly, this means either O.J. Howard or Cameron Brate will be traded, the only question is which one. For fantasy purposes, both are nice “buy low” options in dynasty right now. For those of you who grabbed Gronk off waivers weeks ago, now might be the time to “sell high” with the news breaking. If an over excited fantasy owner is willing to part with a 2020 second-round rookie pick, trade Gronk. Short of that, you should hold onto Gronk and wait to trade him during the season.
Obviously adding Gronk only helps Brady’s fantasy value but in dynasty, his age is the biggest concern. His value takes a very small step up because of the addition of Gronk but not enough to change his trade value. Evans and Godwin now have a legit tight end taking away targets from them but given Bruce Arians’ pass happy approach and Brady’s desire to prove he’s still got plenty left in the tank, neither wide receiver’s fantasy value is impacted.
