NFL DFS: Dart Throws for Week 1 GPPs

NFL DFS: Dart Throws for Week 1: Gardner Minshew

One of my favorite activities to take part in at bars, other than drinking, of course, is playing darts. With the current state of everything, maybe your dartboard is set up in your man cave at home. At any rate, throwing darts takes precision aim. If you hit the bullseye or triple-20, you’re sitting very pretty.

It’s the same concept when it comes to taking down large field tournaments otherwise known as GPPs. Sometimes you have to get a little weird and go off the radar. You don’t have to get all of these guys in your lineup, but one or two could be incredibly beneficial. It could also fail miserably. But if you’re playing in a tournament like the Milly Maker on DraftKings, you’re going to need to get creative and use at least one low-owned player. Without further ado, let’s get to some Dart Throws that might help us take home (or bring up from the basement) a ton of money.

Quarterback

Gardner Minshew ($5,800 DK, $6,700 FD)

He may not really be a dart throw, but he should be low-owned. The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to be trailing for a majority of this game, and Minshew will be forced to chuck up some deep balls in hopes of a come-from-behind win.

Running Back

David Montgomery ($5,900 DK and FD)

Looking at projected ownership, Monty is going virtually unowned. The groin injury he sustained a few weeks ago is misleading many into thinking he won’t be a factor at all. Originally, he was tagged with a two-to-four week timetable to return. He’s logged full practices and appears to have fully recovered. “I feel like the injury was a bigger deal in the media than it really was here,” said Tarik Cohen. “He bounced back off of that so fast, it’s like it never happened.” That’s great news if you’re a Bears fan and a DFS player looking to get an edge. Especially when you factor in all of the offseason work he put in to improve and how great he looked in camp, according to all reports. Barring any last-minute bad news, Monty will be my most-owned Dart Throw.

J.K. Dobbins ($5,000 DK, $5,200 FD)

This is purely a game script narrative deal. Dobbins could in fact become the lead running back for the Baltimore Ravens by season’s end. For now, Mark Ingram is still the main man. If the Baltimore Ravens jump out in front and are winning the game by a sizable margin, maybe they tell Mark Ingram to take the rest of the day off. “Have at it rook, let’s see what you got.” He’s listed as the fourth running back on the depth chart, but something tells me that’s not accurate. Again, this the Dart Throws article, don’t overuse Dobbins or lock him into a ton of lineups.

Wide Receiver

Laviska Shenault ($4,400 DK, $4,600 FD)

The top option to stack with Minshew is of course DJ Chark. Chark is one of my favorite receivers in season-long leagues, and he’s a good option this week. However, we want to get off the radar. Shenault isn’t exactly an unknown, being one of the best receivers in the draft this year. Much speculation has been thrown out there as to who will be the number two wideout for the Jags. It will be Shenault. If Chark has the defense’s main focus, the rookie out of Colorado could be in store for a big day against the Indianapolis Colts.

Justin Watson ($3,800 DK, $4,700 FD)/Scotty Miller ($4,000 DK, $4,500 FD)

Mike Evans was downgraded to doubtful earlier in the week and has since been upgraded back to questionable. His status is uncertain, all we know is he’s dealing with an ailing hamstring issue, which we know can be tricky to gauge. If he’s out, both Watson and Miller are extremely intriguing fantasy options. With the New Orleans Saints defense geared up to defend Chris Godwin, Tom Brady could be forced to find the other available open targets. The NFL is code for the next man up league. Monitor this situation closely, prior to kickoff. Even if Evans plays, maybe he’s used more as a decoy and one of these two could still be relevant.

Tight End

I’m not really taking the Dart Throw route at Tight End this week, so I’ll just give a list of cheaper guys who are expected to have low ownership: Jimmy Graham, Dawson Knox, and Greg Olsen. There are your Dart Throws if you want them. #Analysis

Good luck this week and be sure to let me know on Twitter @theriot326 if any of these plays helped you win some cash. And if they completely bust, which is entirely possible, feel free to hit me up to scream and yell at me (to an extent).
